Picture yourself 200 miles off the coast of Alaska on a small island in the middle of the Bering Sea shooting King Eiders, just you your best hunting buddy out of a 17 foot duck boat! This is the pinnacle of the UWC Challenge. There is nothing better than this hunt. Watching my first King Eider fold over the decoys is a memory that will last forever! Having hunted waterfowl in over a dozen states and harvested species from all over North America, green heads and snow geese have always been burned into my DNA. When I first heard of the elusive King Eider it was from an old timer who has traveled to Alaska his entire life in pursuit of the majestic sea duck. The man’s stories infatuated me about the idea of harvesting a King. The pinnacle of success. This last winter I embarked on the journey to St. Paul Island and it was one for the books. Over 12 hours of air fare and 15 hours of traveling I didn’t know what I had gotten myself into. We arrived on the

island and I was blown away of the by isolation of it, hundreds of miles from the mainland in the middle of nowhere. We were picked up from the airport and treated like the very kings we set out for. Welcomed with open arms and a gourmet meal I felt like I was at home. The staff were unbelievable and we made friends quick. The first ten minutes in the first morning is all it took. I was now a sea duck hunter at heart. Pulling a long line behind the zodiac watching the most beautiful bird on the planet decoy before shooting light, made me feel like a kid in a candy store. All the travel, time, and expenses went out the window when I squeezed the trigger and saw my first King fall. I had done it. Holding the King in my hands admiring the unique colors they possess and knowing first-hand the environment they live in made me appreciate them that much more. This trip is the pinicle of success in waterfowl hunting. Every diehard waterfowl hunter should get to experience what I have because it is life changing, you escape from your norm and will be rewarded with a hunt of a lifetime and enduring friendship.

I just wanted to drop you a quick note about our recent trip to St Paul Island, AK and the hunt we had in quest of The Kings! When planning this trip I really had no idea what to expect, but when I saw the island out of the airplane window I knew we where in for a treat. On our first morning hunt the sea was calm and the sun was shining, when the first flock of King Eiders made their way toward our decoys it was nothing short of spectacular. This is must for any waterfowler! The entire staff was great.
