SOUTH ISLAND - NEW ZEALAND WATERFOWL HUNTING

UWC TOP CHOICE

NEW ZEALAND TOP-CHOICE WATERFOWL COMBO HUNT

DESTINATION OVERVIEW:

UWC Adventures brings true boots-on-the-ground expertise to New Zealand waterfowl hunting. Over the past three years, we have carefully researched, evaluated, and hunted with multiple waterfowl outfitters before selecting a single operation that meets our uncompromising standards. We are confident we have partnered with one of the finest waterfowl operations available to the traveling hunter.

In May of 2025, UWC Adventures Co-Owner Jim Riley personally traveled to New Zealand to hunt alongside our chosen outfitter. The experience not only met—but exceeded—his expectations. From bird quality and habitat to organization and hospitality, every detail reflected a commitment to excellence. This hunt delivers exceptional value, supported by an outfitter and staff whose sole focus is providing a first-class, unforgettable experience.

Hunting takes place on New Zealand’s spectacular South Island, a region renowned for its dramatic landscapes and diverse ecosystems. Dominated by the Southern Alps, which run nearly the full length of the island, the terrain is divided between the lush, rain-fed West Coast and the expansive Canterbury Plains to the east. This variety creates ideal waterfowl habitat across farmland, rivers, ponds, marshes, and lakes.

The South Island offers outstanding opportunities for ducks, geese, and swans, all set against some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world. Beyond the hunt, this destination is equally appealing for non-hunters—making it an excellent trip to share with your spouse or companion.

THE HUNT:

With access to more than 30,000 acres of prime private waterfowl habitat, each day in New Zealand brings a new and exciting hunting experience. Our expert guides carefully tailor every hunt based on bird movement, weather, and field conditions to ensure the best possible opportunities in the field.

Most hunts take place on dry ground in productive grain fields and lush pasture settings where waterfowl feed heavily. Additional opportunities include strategically placed blinds on private ponds, secluded marshes, small lakes, and expansive river systems—each offering its own unique challenge and adventure.

No two days are ever the same. One morning may begin with fast-flying ducks dropping into decoys over golden grain fields, while the next could find you set up along a scenic river corridor as flocks work the spread at first light. Every hunt is framed by the rugged mountains, rolling farmland, and breathtaking landscapes that make New Zealand one of the most unforgettable waterfowl destinations in the world.

Hunters can expect high-action shooting and the opportunity to pursue a wide variety of New Zealand waterfowl species, including:

  • Mallard Ducks

  • Pacific Black Ducks

  • Hybrid Ducks

  • Shovelers

  • Canada Geese

  • Black Swans

  • Paradise Ducks

Hunting is typically conducted both morning and afternoon, with five full days of guided hunting included in each package.
