UWC Adventures has partnered with Geoff and Carole Irvine of Season Outfitters to offer a personalized five-day hunting experience based from Season Lodge near Christchurch. Geoff brings more than 30 years of waterfowl knowledge and a lifetime of experience hunting throughout the South Island.
Each day is planned around current bird movements, weather and field conditions. Guests may hunt agricultural fields, private lakes and ponds, rivers, wetlands and marshes while pursuing paradise shelducks, black swans, mallards, Pacific black ducks, Australasian shovelers and Canada geese.
With premium accommodations, thoughtfully prepared meals and genuine New Zealand hospitality, this is much more than a hunting trip—it is a complete South Island sporting experience.

NEW ZEALAND WATERFOWL HUNTING
New Zealand’s South Island offers a waterfowl experience unlike anywhere else. Hunters explore the Canterbury region’s agricultural fields, private lakes, rivers, wetlands and marshes while surrounded by snow-capped mountains and remarkable countryside.
Throughout the five-day hunt, Geoff selects each location according to weather, bird movements and current field conditions. This allows guests to experience several hunting styles and habitats during their stay.
Species opportunities may include mallards, Pacific black ducks, hybrid mallards, Australasian shovelers, Canada geese, paradise shelducks and black swans. The variety of birds makes Canterbury especially appealing to traveling waterfowl hunters and UWC members pursuing international species.
Season Outfitters provides the firearms, ammunition, decoys and local knowledge, allowing guests to travel more easily and concentrate on enjoying the hunt.
THE HUNTING EXPERIENCE
Most hunting days begin before daylight as hunters travel to carefully selected locations. Morning hunts may take place over decoys in agricultural fields, along waterways or on private ponds and wetlands, depending on where the birds are working.
Following the morning hunt, guests return to Season Lodge for brunch, relaxation and time to enjoy the property. Afternoon hunting opportunities are planned around the weather, bird activity and the goals of the group.
Geoff Irvine brings more than 30 years of New Zealand waterfowl knowledge to every hunt. His understanding of Canterbury’s birds, habitats and changing conditions allows each day to be tailored rather than following a fixed routine.
With a maximum of six hunters, the experience remains personal and well organized. Guests enjoy attentive guiding, varied wingshooting and the opportunity to experience New Zealand’s scenery, culture and hospitality throughout the week.
